Privacy & Terms

Last updated: September 2026. Kid Finance Lab is an Adult-led money-learning service for families and groups. It does not hold, transfer or provide banking services. Balances are intended to represent real money an Adult is managing for a Child.

Adults and Children

An Adult creates or joins a Lab and controls Child access. Children use a Child code/PIN and do not need an email account. Adults may be given access to the whole Lab or only selected Children. Adults are responsible for deciding who may access their Lab and for keeping passwords, Control PINs, Recovery Keys and invitation links private.

Money records

Allowance, bonuses, savings, purchases, cash withdrawals and optional Household Bills are ledger records. Kid Finance Lab does not move the underlying money. A Child may submit Money In or Money Out entries, but those submissions do not change the authoritative balance until an Adult with access approves them. The Adult is responsible for making the real-world arrangement match the records where appropriate. Household Bills are optional, start off by default and may be set to zero in the Lab’s chosen currency.

Child wellbeing

The service separates essential care from optional spending. Health, medicine, safety, everyday care and basic needs are not treated as rewards to be purchased. Virtual pets cannot die; care changes growth speed only.

Information we store

We store the information needed to operate the service, such as Adult account details, Lab memberships, Child profiles, ledger entries, goals, receipts, Stars, pet progress, Learning Lab progress, notifications, billing/access status, security/audit records and support tickets. We minimise Child data and do not require Child email addresses.

Service analytics and referrals

We record privacy-minimised service analytics such as visits, registrations, checkout/trial starts, paid conversions and feature activity. A Lab may keep its first-touch referral or campaign labels (source, medium and campaign) so later trial and paid events can be attributed. We do not keep the full referring URL or IP address in this funnel. Admin reporting is aggregate, and common search, social-preview and monitoring bots are excluded.

Security

Passwords and PINs are stored as one-way hashes. Recovery Keys are shown to the Adult and only a hash is stored. Sessions expire, sensitive actions are protected against cross-site requests, and repeated PIN attempts are rate-limited. No online service can promise absolute security; Adults should use strong unique passwords and protect their Recovery Key.

Adult email and account recovery

Adult email addresses are verified when transactional email is enabled. Verified Adult email may be used for account verification, password-reset links, invitations and important service notices. Password-reset links are time-limited and single-use. The Recovery Key remains an offline fallback if an Adult loses access to email; successful Recovery Key use rotates the key. Kid Finance Lab does not email plaintext passwords, Child PINs, Adult Control PINs or Recovery Keys.

Inactive Labs and Child profiles

An empty Lab with no Child may be removed after the onboarding grace period. Populated Labs may be marked dormant or retired after inactivity but are not automatically destroyed merely for being unused, because their records may correspond to real money. When paid Child access is not active, the Child profile is frozen rather than deleted so the Adult can retain its history.

Paid Child access

Adults may create and manage their family account without a separate Adult subscription charge. The first subscription activation for a Lab includes a 7-day free trial. After that, each active Child uses the GBP £1 monthly base price; Stripe may present and charge an eligible local-currency equivalent at checkout through Adaptive Pricing. There is no annual commitment. If a Child subscription ends, that Child profile is frozen unless another valid access entitlement applies; stored history is not deleted merely because payment stopped.

Payment and email providers

When paid access is enabled, payment details are handled by the configured payment provider (currently Stripe); Kid Finance Lab does not store full card numbers. If transactional email is enabled, a configured delivery provider may process the Adult email address and message content needed to send verification, password-reset, invitation and service messages.

Support

You can use the website’s Contact Kid Finance Lab form or email support@kidfinancelab.com. Service messages may also direct Adults to that mailbox. Contact Kid Finance Lab

Educational purpose

Kid Finance Lab is an educational and record-keeping tool, not financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Adults remain responsible for real-world financial decisions.

Changes

Features, prices and terms may change as the service develops. Material changes should be communicated through the service where appropriate.
